The 19th Century starts badly to Eleanor.
In February of 1800 , the Northern Colonies declare their independence. Philip I, son of Michael IV, does nothing to stop the rebellious act. Population did not react very well to this news, and got even more angry with the news of the falling commerce income from the colonial goods lines.
Northern States, controlling the colonial transport company, renamed it to ‘Northern States Federal Company’ (NSFC), as it was a government controlled company. The first true public company in this region.
The same year the One Lake Canal is built in the Northern
States, by orders of the new independent nation.

In Eleanor, in April of 1800, the Royal Government, by orders of Philip I,
sold Sunhall Port to SI&C (also known as SIC). This port is the most important of Eleanor, since near it are the fish, pottery and furniture industries. It makes the Southern Islands economy truly move.
In June 1802, part of River Soupe, between Miseningston and Hartham, was converted to a canal,
and a SI&C passenger boat started operating.
Since independence, the Northern states have been developing
industry. In 1803, a textile factory opens in the capital, Oakingworth.
In September of 1804, bad news struck Eleanor. Mount St. George, what was thought to be a normal mountain, was a dormant volcano. By the morning of the 20th day, earthquakes cause panic between the sounding cities, mainly the capital, a few miles west of there. Before sunset, a huge cloud erupts from the mountain peak, spreading south and destroying part of Durworth and Templegate and many farms in between. The royal road between these cities is destroyed and the many bridges completely erased by the ashen clouds. In total, more than 3,000 lives were lost.

Had the ashen clouds go to West, to the capital, and the death toll had been catastrophic.
